| Fire Prevention Week is October 4 through 10, and this year’s theme is “Charge Into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower.”
Rechargeable batteries are part of everyday life. They power our phones, tablets, laptops, tools, bikes, scooters and many other devices. When batteries or chargers are damaged, used incorrectly, or left charging in unsafe locations, they can create a serious fire risk.
The Chester County Fire Chiefs Association encourages everyone to take a few simple precautions: use the charger that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer, charge devices on a hard surface away from anything that can burn, and stop using batteries that are damaged, swollen, unusually hot or giving off an odor.
Fire prevention starts at home. Take a few minutes this week to look around your home, talk with your family about fire safety, check your smoke alarms and make sure everyone knows what to do if there is a fire.
Our fire departments across Chester County work every day to keep our communities safe. Fire Prevention Week is a great reminder that all of us can play a part in preventing fires before they happen.
Stay safe, Chester County. |
