This presentation will consist of a full day workshop containing a systematic review of the role of leadership in today’s fire service. The class will identify the characteristics, traits, and skills that are required to manage effectively in the modern emergency service workplace. Students will learn real world solutions for today’s leadership challenges.
Target audience Any Chief Officer, Line Officer or Senior FF with 3 years of experience

Faculty & Credentials
Robert Burns is a retired Battalion Chief from the Fire Department of New York. During his 37 year career he served in various field commands throughout NYC as well as assignments as a Safety Battalion Chief, a Haz-Mat Chief and an original member of the FDNY’s Incident Management Team.
Chief Burns’ leadership training credentials include serving as adjunct instructor teaching leadership at John Jay College in New York City and heading the curriculum development group responsible for designing and delivering the leadership modules of the FDNY promotional training courses for lieutenants, captains, and battalion chiefs. He was the Director of the New York State First Line Supervisor’s Training Program at the FDNY Fire Academy from 2007 until 2010. Chief Burns is a nationally certified Fire Instructor level II, and currently conducts leadership training workshops for career and volunteer fire departments around the country.
